Comoros edges Namibia 1-0 in AFCON qualifier

Namibia’s Brave Warriors lost to Comoros in a Group G match of the 2027 Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The match was played at the Stade Omnisports de Malouzini in Moroni, Comoros, and ended 1-0 in favor of the home team.

Comoros’ goal was scored by Benjaloud Youssouff in the 53rd minute, with a long-range shot that Namibian goalkeeper Ndisiro Kamaijanda couldn’t handle.

Despite having several chances to equalize, the Brave Warriors were unable to convert them, and Comoros took the win. Brave Warriors’ head coach, Collin Benjamin, stated that Namibia were unlucky to lose due to the unconverted chances.

Benjamin noted that in the first half, Namibia had problems containing Comoros, but in the second half, they had four chances and showed good character. He said it was unfortunate that they couldn’t take those chances and that they will go back to the drawing board to prepare for the next match.

The loss puts Namibia in third place in Group G, with three points from two games, behind Cameroon, who have four points from two matches, and Comoros, who have three points due to a better head-to-head record over Namibia.

Namibia will face Cameroon, the five-time CAF AFCON champions, in their next qualification encounter on November 11. The top two teams in Group G will qualify for the 2027 CAF AFCON, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
